La Picona Honey Maracaturra 2024 COE

from $35.00
sold out

Josh’s notes:
Lovely and deceptively subtle. This coffee is very, very clean and was clearly handled with utmost precision and care. To me, this coffee does not hit you over the head with flavor immediately. Instead, a more tasteful approach has been taken here. You’re greeted with texture that is playful and lingering like hard candies, with a subtle burst of cherry and cassis juice flavors accompanied by the tart aroma of plum and green apple. However, it’s the inky-black background of this coffee that stands out. Even with such a subtle flavor profile, the flavor clarity is still great, with a greater than average degree of separation and balance that so many lesser coffees can’t quite match. This is a coffee for the person who enjoys the finer aspects of specialty coffee, for the person who appreciates high fidelity and detail over loudness and saturation.

Lilo’s notes:
“Olga Marina is an experienced coffee producer and a regular award-winner at the Cup of Excellence (COE). She won 1st place in the 2005 Nicaragua COE, followed by 2nd place in 2014 and 4th place in 2018.

With over 30 years of experience in coffee cultivation, Olga mainly grows the Maracaturra variety at La Picona Farm.

She takes meticulous care in every step of the process—from soil management at the farm, handpicking only fully ripe cherries, to handling both wet and dry milling before sending samples to the COE judging panel.

It’s an incredibly demanding job, but she remains dedicated to producing even better coffee year after year.”

Roast:
Roasted Light by our friends at Lilo Coffee Factory in Osaka, Japan.
