Las Margaritas Washed CGLE17
Josh’s notes:
Smells like a carbonated jasmine soda, or a fresh ginger ale with a nice ginger kick. Lovely scent. Smells of peach skin on grind, mixed with a strong smell of jasmine flowers. On wet, the jasmine aroma is pumped up even more. Very clear note. As the brew goes on, you get more peach along with more ginger bite. In the cup, the brew is super clean like mountain water, but maintains a soft mouthfeel of pleasant peach jasmine tea. This is a very elegant cup of coffee that takes from both sides of the genetic aisle; the delicacy of geisha mixed with the fruit of caturra varietals. Supremely easy to drink!
Please note, the roaster strongly recommends allowing this coffee to rest for additional time. We were able to pull these notes on coffee rested only 2 weeks, but we also feel additional resting (30ish extra days at room temperature) will take these beans to even greater heights. They just have that quality.
Apollon’s Gold’s notes:
“We are thrilled to introduce two exciting "firsts" for Apollon's Gold: our first release from the renowned Las Margaritas farm, and our very first time featuring the highly anticipated CGLE17 variety.
We have been closely following this specific variety for a long time, evaluating numerous auction samples over the years. and now we are finally bringing it to our roastery in Tokyo.
CGLE17 is an exclusive, original variety developed by Café Granja La Esperanza, created by crossing Geisha with Caturra. While it is a hybrid, its flavor profile is overwhelmingly driven by the Geisha genetics. In fact, we can confidently say this is the absolute best Geisha-cross hybrid we have ever tasted.
The cup retains strong, classic Geisha characteristics but introduces a beautifully soft, peach-like body. It features a profoundly clean jasmine florality, brilliantly highlighted by a vibrant, sparkling ginger ale note reminiscent of a great Sydra. It is a truly remarkable coffee—powerful, yet elegantly soft.”
Roast:
Roasted light and spectacularly by our friends at Apollon’s Gold in Tokyo, Japan, rested for 14 days, then vacuum packed and frozen. I recommend letting this coffee rest an additional 30(ish) days at room temperature after you receive it.
