La Esmeralda "Guabo" Natural Geisha
Josh’s notes:
Smells like a pile of peeled mandarin oranges and canned, tinned pineapple on bag open. It’s super vibrant like a freshly opened carton of Minute Maid. On grind, this opens up into a pineapple rind. It smells blended and round when you grind it; like everything has integrated perfectly together. In the brew, it’s clean and spherical with an extra smooth mouthfeel. The juice of a sticky red-orange nectarine comes forth in the brew too, which accompanies the pineapple and oranges in perfect balance. As it cools, this brew adopts a juicy pineapple acidity that’s addictive to sip. It is still a geisha though, with that classic tea-like delicacy keeping everything together.
It goes without saying that this geisha is as rare as it is expensive; growing only on a specific plot of land at La Esmeralda set aside for competition grade coffees. Deservedly so, I would also firmly put this in the “competition grade” category. So does Glitch. It just has a certain…something to it.
Not sold to general public but available through Lucienne; we strongly advise you do not purchase this coffee unless you are well versed in your equipment and have strong confidence in your technique. Please do not waste $140 dollars on a bag of coffee if you’re unsure!
Or you know, whatever. Leave it to the coffee grounds and hot water to figure it out… :)
Glitch’s notes:
“Panama Boquete La Esmeralda (GUABO)
From Hacienda La Esmeralda located in Boquete, Panama, Geisha, which is rich in gorgeous and fruity, has arrived.
Hacienda La Esmeralda is a family-run farm run by the Peterson Family. In the world of specialty coffee, Geisha is one of the indispensable producers when talking about the variety of Geisha.
In 2004, La Esmeralda's Geisha won the Best of Panama. The gorgeous scent reminiscent of Jasmine and the unique taste different from the previous Panama Coffee attracted a great deal of attention, and it was an opportunity to widely spread the existence of Panama Geisha to the world.
This time, the lot "Guabo" is Geisha, which was raised in a high-altitude area located at an altitude of 1,850m in La Esmeralda. By maturing slowly in a cool environment, it forms Geisha-like gorgeousness and delicate fruit feeling.
From the cup, the bright and gorgeous citrus impression of Mandarine Orange, the ripe fruitiness of Pineapple, soft sweetness reminiscent of Nectarine. Along with the round texture, the impression of complex fruits continues to a long aftertaste.
Please enjoy the gorgeousness of Geisha, which La Esmeralda has made known to the world, and the rich fruitiness unique to Natural.”
Roast:
Roasted light and spectacularly by our friends at Glitch Coffee and Roasters in Tokyo, Japan.
